How it all started
Joyce Chong was born on July 1, 1991, in Haarlem, The Netherlands. She took an interest in sports at an early age. However, it wasn’t until the age of 13 she started playing golf. The first great shot- every golfer remembers the feeling of their first solid iron shot. Joyce was 13 when she had her first golf lesson at Golfbaan Spaarnwoude under the instruction of one of the most successful golf coaches, Ad Wessels. Wessels, who was named coach of the year in 2012, accompanied Joyce from the very first beginning, from amateur to professional. Under Wessels’ expert training and professional advice, Joyce reached a handicap of 4 within two years of playing golf and was elected for the Dutch National Team.
After graduating with a European Baccalaureate from the International School of Bergen, at the age of 18, Joyce decided to continue her exciting journey and pursued an international study. The perfect place that combined both top-sports and education was America. Joyce spent 4 years at the University of Nevada playing college golf in the first division amongst the best amateurs in the world.
Joyce is a young, independent, and ambitious woman with a clear vision of life. Some of her accomplishments allowed her to be featured as Golfer of the Week by the Golf Magazine and Western Athletic and Golfer of the Month by Verizon. With set determination, persistence, and strong will, she works continuously on her career towards a bright future. Over time, her avid sense of drive and passion in golf has transformed her into a true athlete.
